The Violet May announce UK headline tour dates and Iceland Airwaves Festival this October

Fresh off the back of releasing their lauded debut EP “TV” on Oh! Inverted World in the summer, along with headline shows at London’s Koko, Music Week’s Breakout night, a German tour with The Chapman Family, and support to The Duke Spirit; Sheffield rockers The Violet May will be taking to the road for their own national headline tour this October.

The band play across the UK from October 1st with support from Aussie act All Mankind, before ending with a show at Iceland’s Airwaves Festival on October 14th.

The Violet May have been creating havoc on the live scene since forming in 2009, and are seen by many as the remedy to the mass of twee indie acts currently on the scene. A debut video shot by Douglas Hart of Jesus & Mary Chain and support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, XFM, Clash, Guardian, Artrocker and The Sun have been backed by performances at the likes of Leeds Festival, Secret Garden Party, Boardmasters Festival, and opening the Energy Sessions Festival for Band Of Skulls and The Boxer Rebellion.

Chris McClure, frontman of the band, said of the tour: “We are like animals locked in a cage at the moment, we are on a mission to show people that guitar music still has a heartbeat, they don’t need to settle for the vaccines or viva brother. Leave your pretenses at home and come check us out”

Following the tour, The Violet May are headed back into the studio to lay down the next set of tracks for their debut album. The band will also release the track “This Could Be Bad” in November as part of the legendary Club 60′s new singles club. And we can’t wait to get our ears around it!

October live dates;

1/10 SUNDERLAND – Plugged Inn
2/10 INVERNESS – Mad Hatters
4/10 LONDON – Lexington
6/10 MANCHESTER – Alter Ego
7/10 LIVERPOOL – Mojo

The Violet May – New Single “TV” Out Today!

Happy bank holiday folks! Hope you’re all having a good one (well, those in the UK anyway). So we are super proud to announce that we have yet another hot single coming out of Oh! Inverted World towers today. The track is TV by Northern rockers The Violet May and is available from all good digital stores (itunes, amazon, HMV, 7digital, etc) from today and precedes the forthcoming 5-track EP out next month (see the links on the right of this blog).

You can also grab yourself an exclusive listen of the new single here;

A dark and melancholic slow-burner, “TV” is focused on the world of TV celebrities and people’s obsession with fame. It’s our third release for TVM, and it just keeps getting better from these guys. Despite only having been around since the end of 2009, TVM have already been tipped for big things in broadsheet The Guardian, appeared in the BBC 6Music studio as Steve Lamaq’s new favourite band, headlined London’s KOKO for Club NME, played the likes of Secret Garden Party, Leeds Festival, a sold out Italian tour, a German tour with The Chapman Family, shot their debut video with Douglas Hart (of Jesus & Mary Chain), opened for Band Of Skulls and Boxer Rebellion, as well as winning big support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, XFM, The Guardian, Clash, Artrocker amongst others.

The Violet May finished up in the studio in early February, recording their debut EP with Alan Smyth (Arctic Monkeys, Long Blondes, Pulp) at 2Fly Studios in Sheffield. “TV” is the first single from the EP, following a free download of the track “What You Say” which has already been picked up for NME’s “10 Best Mp3′s This Week” and Q Magazine’s “New To Q” playlist. The full 5-track EP is out on June 27th, you can pre-order it now and get the new single for FREE though. Just give the cover shot below a click.

The band are back at London’s KOKO for a headline set in late-July, as well as shows throughout the country and sets at Iceland Airwaves Festival in Reykjavik and this year’s Boardmasters Festival. Check out full dates and details here; www.facebook.com/thevioletmay

Tristram – Accidents & Artifice

Late last year OIW put on a wonderful and super talented young singer-songwriter called Tristram for a show, we were so impressed that we started OIW Records just to release his debut “Someone Told Me A Poem” EP (which you can still get here folks).

Following that release back in February Tris went on to sign for the wonderful Broken Sound Records and is celebrating his new EP “Accidents & Artifice” with a launch party this Monday. We’ve got our copies of the new EP over here and can confirm that it’s ace! In fact here’s a sneak peak of one of the tracks for you;

Tristram – Rhyme Or Reason

So if you’re about on Monday night then come join us at the Macbeth to see Tris, support also comes from the lovely Lulu and The Lampshades

The Border Surrender – May 20th at OIW!

Oh! Inverted World is back this week folks and we’re hella excited! On Thursday night at London’s Old Queens Head, not only will the ace BAXTER DURY (son of legend Ian) and wonderous KIT RICHARDSON be taking to the OIW stage, but we will also have the amazing THE BORDER SURRENDER along for the night!

The Border Surrender

The Border Surrender only burst onto the live scene earlier this year but have quickly been gathering momentum, recalling the likes of Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young, Nick Cave and Band Of Horses with their Americana stylings.

They’ve already got an EP out there too (through Smoky Carrot). We caught them at their launch show at Charlotte Street Blues last month and were smitten. Here’s a taste of what to expect with the track “American Car” from the EP, Blood In The Snow.

SUPERHUMANOIDS – “Music to help kiss the doldrums away!”

Superhumanoids

We can’t quite believe we’re announcing our third release already, but kids, it looks like we are! And we couldn’t really be more stoked to be releasing the first EP from LA buzz band Superhumanoids this July!

The four piece formed in a bedroom in what they all an “an electronic experiment to escape the everyday of the everyday…an exploration of pop through a spaced-out, kaleidoscopic lens. “. As abstract as that sounds, their tunes are exactly that. With the lo-fi electronic sounds akin to the XX, Beach House style floaty vocals and a sound that’s well, uniquely theirs and uniquely current, essentially it’s just god damn brilliant and we’re predicting bloggers across the geekaverse are going to get a wee bit excited about Cameron, Sarah, Max and Evan.

To introduce you guys to our newest OIW recruits we’re giving away a track from the new EP, FOR FREE AND EVERYTHING.

Enjoy…
