June 21st – BEAR DRIVER + SOUTHERN + SEA STACKS

Oh! Inverted World is back on June 21st with another showcase of the best new music around! And we also have an Oh! Inverted World DOUBLE birthday thrown into the mix this month (James is oooold, Tom is even oooolder, please bring along cake to cheer them both up).

Bear Driver

Up this month we will have our second O!IW appearance from the ace BEAR DRIVER. Expect awesome tunes, sweeping melodies, and a hell of a show. Exciting!

Southern

Speaking of exciting, the hotly-tipped (and quite-rightly-so) SOUTHERN will also be on the bill. Made up of Belfast duo Thom and Lucy Southern, this band not only come with the O!IW “stamp of approval”, but have recently been picking up accolades from the likes of BBC Radio 1 and The Fly, as well as supporting The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and Willy Mason amongst others. Nice.

And kicking things off for us will be the downright magnificent SEA STACKS, charming and wondrous, this is the kind of act that the Old Queens Head was made for.

So that all sounds pretty good, right? Throw in some quality DJ sets and the fact the night is FREE ENTRY (yep, it won’t cost you a penny) and how can you say no? We’d love to see you all on Thursday, June 21st. Here’s an event page too folks! OIW – JUNE 21st 2012

Bring cake.

O!IW Sessions #2 featuring GOOD DANGERS

O!IW teamed up again with Sound You Can See at our last monthly showcase for another exclusive O!IW Session. Following on from the wonderful session we did with Sam Airey (you can still watch that session HERE), we pulled aside the ace GOOD DANGERS who played a brand new tune for us “Better Than You Were” in the top of The Old Queens Head on a ridiculously sunny afternoon…

A great night followed with Amber States, Findlay and Good Dangers playing to a packed out night. Look out for a new session this month, and news on our June 21st showcase that will feature the excellent Bear Driver, Southern and Sea Stacks.

May 24th, there be music

Oh! Inverted World returns to the Old Queens Head on May 24th with (as ever, obvs) an AMAZING line-up of Good Dangers, Amber States, Natalie Findlay and Golden Fable. You’d expect to pay good money for such quality, but no, IT’S TOTALLY FREE!

———-GOOD DANGERS———-

Here are Good Dangers cycling through woods in the dark (which is very dangerous, please don’t try at home kids, this could be a Bad Danger (haha, geddit?!))

———-AMBER STATES———-

Amber States are also amazing and you can listen to them here: http://www.facebook.com/Amberstatesmusic

———-NATALIE FINDLAY———-

Natalie Findlay is keeping it quiet online so far, but having seen her play a couple of months ago we are very sure you are all gonna fall for her too.

———-GOLDEN FABLE———-

Golden Fable are ridiculously lovely. Their video also features trees, but no cycling. They are aware of the dangers…

The Dufflefolks Return!

The Dufflefolks!

Awooooo to The Dufflefolks! Despite their tongue in cheek name, these guys really have got something proper special going on. They totally blew us away last time they graced the OIW stage with their wonderfully inventive, amazingly talented and brilliant lo-fi tunes. We can’t explain how chuffed we are to be welcoming them back to open proceedings on July 22nd at The Old Queens Head ahead of their performance at Greenman Festival.

Yep, the ‘folks entered a comp to play Greenman Festival recently and trounced everyone else in sight to win a slot at the festival. It’s thoroughly deserved, you should check out the lovely tune they’ve given us for you below and then get along to their myspace (www.myspace.com/thedufflefolks) and spend some quality time with more of their tunes.

Right click, download

We can’t imagine anyone who sees them wouldn’t leave with an excited feeling that they’ve just seem something amazing. Plus they’ve promised us “animal hoodies” and if you’re lucky then you might also get “bearded by The Dufflefolks”. Er, yep, like this attractive fella below…

Aside from all that excitement there will also be the amazing James Vincent McMorrow and Bear Driver playing on July 22nd, more details HERE folks!

Coming Up On July 22nd…

JAMES VINCENT MCMORROW, BEAR DRIVER, THE DUFFLEFOLKS
July 22nd, The Old Queens Head (London)

Having been prevented from adorning our stage in April due to volcano related nightmares stopping him from crossing the sea from Ireland to England, Dublin’s James Vincent McMorrow is back on our bill and hopefully will this time be on our stage! In amidst a sea of beardy folky types strumming guitars, this is a man who manages to really standout. With his hauntingly gentle vocals, guitars as warm and cosy as an open fire, you could be thinking ‘sounds like these tunes would be a good sync for an especially emotional moment in One Tree Hill’, which is kinda true, but in the bestest possible way. As lovely as it is affecting, there’s a hell of a lot of fragility on display here. And images of trees. Loads of trees.

Leeds six-piece Bear Driver are one of the most exciting new British bands at the moment. They’ve been compared to Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire and Yo La Tengo, which basically means they play impeccably indie fuzzy pop songs and are set to astound you on July 22nd.

The last time the wonderful Dufflefolks played for us Morrissey turned up. This time we’re expecting Neil Young to pop on down to Essex Road, and of course he would cos these guys from Hertfordshire have got some damn good tunes.

Along with the amazing bands we’ll of course have a DJ set by the one and only Dave Depares. We know he gets you grooving. Woo!

Coming Up On June 17th…

LEFT WITH PICTURES + EMIT BLOCH + LOOK, STRANGER!
June 17th, The Old Queens Head (London)

Yes, the rumours are true folks! OIW is back at the Old Queens Head on June 17th, and we’re bringing you yet another awesomely eclectic and wonderful line-up!

An OIW reunion might also be on the cards wth our AWOL member Sam Seager back from his adventures in the Japanese wilderness that very day! So what delights can we expect this month? Well it’s real good folks, we’ve got…

LEFT WITH PICTURES

Left With Pictures

One of the most wonderful experiences we can think of to leave the house for. These guys have been gaining accolades from all over, including the likes of Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne, Bob Harris, Gideon Coe, along with heaps of praise from press types including Drowned In Sound editor Mike Diver hailing them, “Beyond brilliant…a band I fell in love with from the first listen”

Think Belle & Sebastian, early Aberfeldy, and a bunch of wonderfully enchanting pop folk melodies. Make no mistake, this will be utterly amazing in the gorgeous surroundings of the Old Queens Head.

EMIT BLOCH

Emit Bloch

So that’s pretty cool huh? Well we got more kids! And yet another rising star on the scene in the form of EMIT BLOCH, a folk country D.U.D.E. who is currently on the ace One Little Indian roster. With a bunch of 5-star reviews calling him both “utterly remarkable” (UNCUT), and “fresh, vital, uncluttered and brilliant” (THE SUN), along with Beth Orten and Alan McGee shouting his praises. Emit is seriously cool and we can’t wait to have him along for the show.

LOOK, STRANGER!

Look, Stranger!

We’re also delighted to have the wonderfully inventive folk pop of LOOK, STRANGER! along for the night, we’ve been meaning to make this happen for a while and so it’s great news that the guys are coming down to the Old Queens Head for this one. Aw, it’s going to be such a great evening!

And if that wasn’t enough, we’ll also have the one and only Mr Dave Depares along to spin out the best tunes and keep us all dancing and drinking well into the early hours (well until 1am anyway, it is a school night).

Hope to see you all on the 17th! Oh, and it’s just a fiver for all this goodness if you bring a flyer (coming soon), or perhaps come wearing bowling shoes.

Facebook event and details HERE folks.
