Back to Reading

So it’s that time of year again where we surround ourselves with dirty teenagers in a field in Berkshire. Having spent three years at university in Reading, the bank holiday weekend at the end of August is now the only time I return to the place.

Delphic Get It On With Phoenix

Yes, yes, you’ve heard all about Delphic by now. And of course you’ve had Phoenix rammed down your pie-hole every other hour until it started to get more than boring. Well, sorry folks, but here’s some more! Mwah-ha-ha!

Delphic

But despite the overkill, obviously both those acts are awesome and it’s always great to hear something fresh, especially if it involves them combining their talents. So it was a happy occassion when those Aussies from super-label Modular sent us through Delphic’s new remix of Phoenix’s “Fences”. It’s a top tune and part of a push to help promote some Delphic EP that they’re only getting in the US (boo!) in early March with various exclusives on. Here’s the mix, so get your ears round this…

By the way, if you haven’t picked up the Delphic album yet then you can listen to the whole thing on their myspace at the moment, www.myspace.com/delphic, so go check it out. Ooh yeah.

Phoenix – Tune For A Chilly Winter day

Despite being named after the club in Phoenix Nights (this may be an entirely made up fact), Phoenix have been steadily taking the mantle of being the greatest thing out of France since, well, croissants (lack of cultural knowledge blamed for the stereotypical bland comparison here).

Phoenix - leading by example in how to keep warm outside and still have some sense of style

Ahem, well anyway, their great “Lisztomania” track has been all over the place this year and was even featured on early trailers for the new flick “Where The Wild Things Are”. We haven’t seen it yet and the next Orange Wednesday – yeah we’re cheapskates – is nearly on Xmas, but we plan on heading down to our local Cineworld to catch it damn soon. (I would just like to say that I saw Where The Wild Things Are a full 2 months ago when I was holidaying in New York because I’m brilliant. Suck on that, James! – love a not at all irritating Caz)

So chances are you’ve already got the tune buzzing around your ears, but you might not have heard this, and it’s blimin’ ace; Alex Metric’s (the best thing out of the UK since gravy) remix of the track, it’s mighty, mighty fine and making this cold, sporadically snowy, day roll along just nicely thank you.

Give it a go.

You’ll have to wait until March for Phoenix to come over again for a show at The Roundhouse, Alex Metric is playing around though, go check his myspaz for dates and all that business HERE.

The French Connection! AIR new record and Phoenix cover!

Super cool ambient French superstars AIR came back onto OIW’s stereo last week with a gem of a tune “So Light Is Her Footfall” ahead of their new record out next month, Love 2.

We loved Premiers Symptomes, and we adored the Playground Love track from the Virgin Suicides soundtrack. So in even better news, fellow French wunderkids Phoenix have also released a cover of that tune. Aw, nice stuff Frenchies! Here you go folks…
