Late last year OIW put on a wonderful and super talented young singer-songwriter called Tristram for a show, we were so impressed that we started OIW Records just to release his debut “Someone Told Me A Poem” EP (which you can still get here folks).
Following that release back in February Tris went on to sign for the wonderful Broken Sound Records and is celebrating his new EP “Accidents & Artifice” with a launch party this Monday. We’ve got our copies of the new EP over here and can confirm that it’s ace! In fact here’s a sneak peak of one of the tracks for you;
Tristram – Rhyme Or Reason
So if you’re about on Monday night then come join us at the Macbeth to see Tris, support also comes from the lovely Lulu and The Lampshades…
So Monday’s aren’t usually much to be excited about, however we are SUPER excited about this Monday as it means our very first record release for Oh, Inverted World Records is now officially released!
Tristram's debut EP - yay!
Yep, we saw Tristram a few months back and were so impressed we’ve cut an EP for him. As well as being utterly AMAZING, all the artwork has been painstakingly handcrafted by Tristram’s own hand, and we can tell you that they look gorgeous on the 6 page fold out CD digipacks. It’s also strictly limited to 300 copies, all individually numbered by the band (but widely available for download from all your favourite places, itunes, 7digital, et al)…
So if you want to get your hands on one of these limited edition beauties before they’re all gone, then you can now order your copy from the link now.

Hello Monday! How was your weekend? And why did you decide to fuck it all up by turning up… Ah well, here’s some tunes that rang out like birds singing this morning and made everything seem fluffy again. And also three pretty damn bizarre band shots to go along with them.
First up, some chirpy-ness coming from Atlas Sound aka Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox. This turned up as the opener on the great 4AD compilation they put out over Christmas and is one of those playful, summer tunes that always makes life seem a bit more wonderful, go on try it, you might like it.
Then an absolutely gorgeous heart-melting track from Local Natives. The guys are big favourites of ours at OIW and our pals exlovers (who played a stunning new set at our bash last Wednesday) are playing with them at Hoxton bar & Grill tomorrow night. Sadly, it’s sold out folks, but Local Natives have another London show in early Feb so you might want to catch them then. Until then here’s “Who Knows, Who Cares” which is actually quite melancholic for a Monday but dreamy enough to distract you from the bad Monday vibes.
And finally, the superbly apocalyptic, beautiful, haunting, cinematic and downright brilliant “Highway Of Endless Dreams” by M83, aka French dude Anthony Gonzalez. Love this tune so much, the constant driving epic-ness of it makes you want to throw your cup of tea over your boss and storm out to make something amazing, or destroy something, or just do something, damn it!

Oh, and tonight we’re off to see the first signing to our new Oh! Inverted World Records imprint, Tristram, at the Luminaire. Hope to see some of you there, it might make your Monday that little bit more special : )
Hellz yeh! This Wednesday (Jan 13th) we’re celebrating our second Birthday with a big old Birthday bash at London’s Old Queens Head, featuring a whole host of super folk including one of our favourite bands of the moment, exlovers.
exlovers
With records out through the very cool Young And Lost Club and Chess Club last year, the guys have been getting rave reviews and selling out shows all over the place.
They also released one of the most hyped tracks of last year, it was a free download and a cover version of Chris Isaac’s Wicked Game. Yep, it should have been cheesy as hell, but exlovers don’t do cheesy, oh no, they carried it off in their own beautiful, haunting style.
So come catch them and have a drink with us on Wednesday, we’d love to see you and you can also catch the wonderful Tristram (our first signing!), new Geffen signing The Boy Who Trapped The Sun, and a few other surprises thrown in too! It’s just a fiver with this flyer n’all…
On January 13th we’re returning to the Old Queens Head to celebrate our second birthday. It’s been an emotional ride kids, and we’re so incredibly happy to still be at the place where we started putting on our special brand of eclectic, star-studded, crazy, wine-injected, ramshackle events. Just so you know, January 13th is going to continue in this vain. We don’t care that it’s January and you’re all obsessed with detoxing. I mean, if you really want to make this month even more depressing then good luck, but what you really need in January is a damn good party, which is where we come in. So, we have for you exlovers, Tristram and a young man from the Isle of Lewis (yes, that’s the Outer Hebrides) , The Boy Who Trapped The Sun (aka Colin MacLeod). His music is wistful, slightly melancholic, and achingly touching in that lovely alt-folksih way. Like our headliners, The Boy Who Trapped The Sun has hooked up with the awesome Chess Club, which is a very exciting partnership indeed.
To warm you up, here’s a track Colin co-wrote with London troubadour Ed Harcourt from his ‘Home EP’ called ‘Lying To Get On Your Good Side’. We reckon you’ll quite like it.
The Boy Who Trapped The Sun – Lying To Get On Your Good Side
We braved the cold earlier this week to go to a Rockfeedback show on a boat on the Thames, and we’re proper chuffed we did!
All aboard the Tamesis Dock!
The amazing Tristram (our first signing, record out in Feb 2010 folks!) was up first, and then we got to spend some time with him watching the fantastic Local Natives and Peggy Sue perform. The boat (The Tamesis Dock) was a wonderful place for a show, a lovely (if somewhat crammed) atmosphere made for a great intimate night and Local Natives left us swooning for more.
Local Natives
They sweep you up in their ever so heartbreaking melodies and take you off somewhere intense and beautiful, which actually works really well on a boat ; )
We’ve had the awesome Airplanes going through our heads for ages now, and here’s the new one doing the rounds, Sun Hands. There’s gonna be huge things happening for these guys in 2010 for sure!
In February we’re going to be releasing an EP by a pretty extraordinary guy called Tristram. Obviously we’ve never released a record before, being more in the business of putting bands on, dancing and getting drunk it’s a rare and ridiculous thing when we find someone so amazing that we decide to create a whole label just to be able to put out a record by them. On the fortchcoming EP is a track called ‘Someone Told Me A Poem‘, which the rather talented Anika Mottershaw has created a super cute and super cool video for. Go on, go and click play. You’ll like it!
Watch this space for further news on Tristram. As a special extra treat, here he is performing ‘Zombie Holocaust‘ at Brighton’s Freebutt.
So on a hungover Bank Holiday Monday, OIW trundled down to Bethnal Green to drink coffee (white, 1 sugar please) and meet a young folk artist called Tristram. Tris appeared at OIW a couple of months back and we fell in love that night, so we had a chat with his manager, the very cool Anthony Chalmers who runs the proper good “God Don’t Like It” nights (including several on a boat!), you should check them out.
Anyway, back to the point, we rifled our pockets and put up some dollars for Tris to get in the studio and record an EP for OIW’s first official release! Grand plans are being made for the first release and we’re excited as hell to be working with Tristram. So we thought we’d share our excitement and give you a taster, you’ll have to wait for the new tunes but until then here is a demo of Tris’ track “Stumbling Home” for your listening pleasure… more news as it happens!
If you want to go see why we’re all excited then get yourself along to one of Tris’ London shows, he’s at Camden Barfly tomorrow with Katie Miller, so if you’re about then get yourself down and we’ll see you there!

Sept 6th – Camley Street Festival
Sept 10th – Candid Arts Cafe
Sept 13th – The Flowerpot (w/ Motel Motel)
Sept 17th – 229 (Club Shuffle)
