Woo, we have another massive, amazing, awesome show to announce! On July 23rd Cleveland-born, New York-honed, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter JOSHUA RADIN will be taking over Madame Jojo’s for the evening. Here are some reasons why you should be excited about this and why you NEED to be there to see him play in a nice intimate venue like Madame Jojo’s, it’s definitely going to be one of your last chances. Mr Radin has become a true global word-of-mouth sensation selling his tunes on iTunes around the world like a muthafucka and getting synced everywhere from Scrubs, House and One Tree Hill – so essentially, if you watch a lot of E4, you’re more than likely to have heard one of his songs. He’s already a big name in the States, where he’s sold over 100,000 copies of his recent album Simple Times through indie Mom & Pop, and is soon to be in the UK too.
The album, which will be released in the UK in August, was produced by Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, Beck), and on myspace (which believe it or not, people still use) he’s received over 16 million plays – which is pretty staggering stuff. In fact, on his last trip to the UK in March he played a sold out tour, which included a date at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire – and as you probably know, it’s fair deal bigger than our gorgeously intimate and seedy Madame Jojo’s. In recent years he has toured with Tori Amos and Imogen Heap, and he also has a celebrity fan in Ellen DeGeneres who requested Radin performed at her wedding in 2008 following a performance on her show, turning down (and note this) an offer from one Justin Timberlake in favour of our man Radin. Like Ellen, we also had an offer from Justin Trousersnake, but he’s just so 2006…
Anything else? Oh yes, the music! And this is actually the most crucial part, as ignoring all the above credentials of sales figures and singing at celebrities’ weddings, his tunes definitely live up to the hype. Joshua’s lo-fi, forlorn, Elliot Smith style tunes are storytelling at its understated and heartbreaking best. And his best mate is Zach Braff. y’know, that bloke off Scrubs.
How good it that? Even better, we’re offering our awesome Oh, Inverted World compatriots the first chance to get tickets, CHEAP tickets. All you have to do is remember the code word ‘California’ and then go over to Ticketweb from 9am tomorrow (Wednesday 3rd). Cheap £6 tickets are limited so get in there quick.
