Oh yes! In case you didn’t already know, on August 20th the OIW team are launching our brand new night upstairs at the renowned and recently re-opened Garage in Highbury. It’s going to be a hell of a night in our new home with a line-up of two of the hottest new bands around in Doll and The Kicks (Morrisseys mates don’t ya know) along with Hook and The Twin who are getting rave reviews all over the place! Woo. More details are below and we would love to see you there to party OIW style.

Doll and The Kicks

Doll and The Kicks

Headlining are Brighton heroes Doll and The Kicks. They’re currently in the midst of a world tour with Morrissey, after he personally requested them to play with him, and has been their most vocal fan ever since. And for good reason, because these four are pretty amazing. Oozing with attitude, they play high-energy, rhythm driven indie-pop. Fronted by Doll, who Artrocker describe as “a perfectly spotless hybrid of Kate Bush and Gwen Stefani”, they’re sure to win you over.

Hook and The Twin

Also on the bill are London’s (via Brazil) duo Hook and The Twin – a.k.a. Tom Havelock and Marcus Efstratiou – , with their skittish rhythms, catchy refrains and what they describe as ‘semi-automated’ music, they’ll have you shaking your ass with their electrofuzzed tunes, likened to their contemporaries Foals and Post War Years. Describing their “musical influences”, as all bands love to do, they demonstrate a penchant for plenty of David Bowie, mixed with lots of 70’s German music like Neu! and Harmonia, plus Eno and associates, shit radio, and of course alarm clocks. Zane Lowe has been shouting about them, Drowned in Sound made them their single of the week, and now their highest accolade to date: playing at The Garage for Oh, Inverted World!
