Dodgy name I’ll concede, but California’s the Morning Benders have been responsible for my current most favourite song, which happens to be at the bottom of this post. To be honest, they’ve been hard to miss in the world of the blogs, but I was still under the naive impression that they were pretty underground and only special people like me know who they are, obvs. On Sunday, however, I was in Topshop on Oxford Street (since I’m clearly a masochist who wants to suffer the scrum of teenage girls during my assigned time of rest) and who should come on the Topshop stereo but those Morning Benders!! Swiftly followed, I might add, by two of our very own O!IW stars of the stage Goldheart Assembly and The Good Natured.
Two things we can learn from this…
1) The Topshop music peeps are definitely/probably fans of O!IW. We are so very influential these days.
2) The Morning Benders will make you want to buy shoes. Or they will if you’re me and in the shoe section at time of listening.
So, here they are. You’re going to be hearing a lot of these guys, perhaps not even just in Topshop but in Gap or Urban Outfitters – they’re going to be massive at retail! They’ve been around for a couple of years now and have recently signed to Rough Trade, who released their new album Big Echo earlier this month. It’s super good.
