Liking The Like, Like Yeah

An LA four piece consisting of four insanely hot and well-connected girls who make 60’s tinged, achingly cool fuzz-rock are inevitably going to raise a few pulses. When The Like first came on to the scene in 2006 with their debut album ‘Are You Thinking What I’m Thinking‘ media fell over themselves to talk about these super glam girls. Even I – the ever cynical critic – was seduced and as a student writer for my university paper I remember giving the album a flatteringly high 8.5/10 (that 0.5 was integral). In the four years since their debut they’ve scrapped an entire album which led to them running off to England and bumping into Mark Ronson, who’s stepped in as producer for their new album ‘Release Me‘, which is out this summer. It sounds like it’s going to be pretty fantastic, as ‘Alexis Chang’ (ahem, nice cover name Alexa) has said in a letter she’s written in support of the foursome “The Like are the band of your dreams…They’re on the brink of something utterly fantastic. You can see it in their eyes!

Mark Ronson and ‘Alexis’ are definitely not the only famous names to show themselves as Like devotees, the absolute legend that is Bill Murray (Bill fucking Murray!!) was seen playing tambourine with them at SXSW this year, and why the hell not! They’re attractive and talented young ladies. They’ve spent years on the road with Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon and Muse and now seem themselves as a wholly different prospect. “We’re a very different kind of band now, and it’s a very different kind of show. One with infinitely more energy!” says Z Berg.

Well we at O!IW officially like The Like and to celebrate we’re posting mp3s, which is how we show appreciation in 2010.
