October 20th – Autumnal Awesomeness

Mechanical Bride is 25 year old songwriter and self-taught musician Lauren Doss, who made quiet but confident waves back in 2008 with her debut release, a collection of beautiful songs called ‘Part II: EPs’. On her new album, ‘Living With Ants’, Mechanical Bride’s debut album proper, is a defiant step up and sees her song writing blossom from the stark, black and white songs on Part II, into fully formed techni-colour flourishes. “I wanted to find the beauty and colour from dark places that exist inside and outside of ourselves, the title ‘Living With Ants’ means learning to co-exist alongside niggling issues and worries that we maybe create for ourselves”.

We’re super excited to have the incredibly talented Lauren and her amazing band play for us, we’ve been asking for years!

Bahamas is Afie Jurvanen, and for the last many years he’s been playing other people’s music– PasoMino, Great Lake Swimmers, The Stills, Howie Beck, Amy Millan, Jason Collett, Hayden and zeus. He’s spent the last few years playing piano and guitar with Feist.

A Bahamas live show is likely to be a solo affair, though lately, a host of Toronto time keepers have been sitting behind the drum kit to accompany the Finnish-Canadian through a set of his so called “love songs.”

His songs put you at risk of the most chilled slumber of that and you feel all, ahem, hakuna matata. We like that.

The Dying Seconds began in 2007 as the recording project of David Cantan and Jack Quilligan. A critically acclaimed, eponymous, debut album under the belt they spent 2008-2009 earning their live spurs gigging around Ireland and the UK, including 5 shows in 2 years at Electric Picnic. Over that time things evolved from a two-men-and-their-laptops situation into a bombastic six-piece with trumpets, strings, synths, singing, guitars of various sorts, and lots of drums! The result is a maelstrom of joyful melancholy.

Recent addition to the bill is the incredibly talented 21 year old Louisa Rose Allen, aka Foxes. Inspired by strong, imaginative, female performers, from Nina Simone and Patti Smith to Kate Bush and Bat For Lashes; we’re super excited to finally have Foxes on the bill.
